Basketball
Basketball is one of the 13 sports which is a part of the General Championship during Inter IIT Sports Meet. All the IITs have outdoor court facilities for successful conduction of the matches though a few IITs do have indoor court facilities and in the year 2014 for the first time all matches were conducted on indoor courts. The sport sees participation from all 17 IITs in both men’s and women’s format.
Format of Play[edit | edit source]
The playoff format is on knockout basis. The match is played strictly according to FIBA rules.
Infrastructure[edit | edit source]
IIT Kharagpur houses three courts in the premises of the Old Gymkhana which is behind Iosys. Two of the three courts are used by the Inter-IIT probables for practices from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Both men's and women's teams are mentored by the permanent coach Soumen Mondol.

Trials for Inter IIT[edit | edit source]
New talent is spotted during the freshmen tournament which happens in September who then undergo rigorous training and daily practice with the senior players for the next couple of months under the guidance of the coach. Around 15 girls and 20 boys are listed as probables. The players are observed on daily basis and towards the end of November a list of 10 girls and 12 boys is finalised by the coach.
