Prerequisite : CY40106Overview of bioinorganic chemistry. Properties of biological molecules. Physical methods in bioinorganic chemistry. Choice,uptake and assembly of metal containing units in biology.Transition metal storage, transport and biomineralization. Electron-transfer proteins: Blue copper proteins, long distance electron transfer. Atom and group transfer chemistry in Fe and Mo:Cytochrome P450, methane monooxygenase, catechol and other dioxygenase, molybdenum oxotransferases. The frontiers of bioinorganic chemistry. Metal/Nucleic-acid interactions. Metals in medicine.
