Prerequisite : CY40102Topics in advanced classical and quantum statistical mechanics: equilibrium properties of systems of interacting molecules with applications to ideal Fermi and Bose gases, simple solids, dense fluids and aqueous solutions.Phase Transition: mean field approaches, critical fluctuations and scaling, application to condensation, polymers and liquid crystals.Strong electroytes: Debye-Huckel theory.Time dependent phenomena and statistical mechanics: time correlation functions, introduction to scattering and time-dependent molecular spectroscopy, transport coefficients.Books: Basic Concepts for Simple and Complex Liquids by J.L.
