  • Perception: Approaches - Top down vs Bottom up, Illusions, Types of illusions, what causes illusions, Gestalt Psychology, law of similarity, law of proximity, law of continuity, pragnanz law, Geography of thought - how the people in east think different from people in west
  • Attention and Memory - selective inattention, spotlight theory, late theory of attention, photographic memory, Stages of Memory: Encoding,Storage, Retrieval, Long Term Memory, Short Term Memory, Case of HM
  • Thinking - Initial pages from the book Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman
  • Problem Solving and Language - problem space theory, theory of chunks
  • Theories of Learning and Language development- Piaget's theory, plasticity of brain, how language shapes thought
  • Intelligence - Types of intelligence, IQ test and its problems, eugenics movement, different studies on intelligence

Student Opinion

A good course to learn the basics of Psychology. Do take it if you are curious and interested. The discussions in class are interesting and professor encourages healthy discussions and doubts. Professor may not give EX grade easily, but you will have a good course experience.
