Introduction to the physiology of cardiac, nervous and muscular and respiratory systems.Transducers and Electrodes: Different types of transducers and their selection for biomedical applications. Electrode theory, Origin of biopotentials and biopotential electrode.Cardiovascular measurement: The heart and the other cardiovascular systems. Measurement of Blood pressure, Blood flow, Cardiac output and cardiac rate. Electrocardiography, phonocardiography, Ballistocardiography, Plethysmography, Magnet- cardiography. Cardiac pacemaker and computer applications.Respiratory System Measurement: Respiratory Mechanism, Measurement of gas volumes and flow rate. Carbon dioxide and Oxygen concentration in inhaled air. Respiratory controllers.Measurement of Electrical Activities in Muscles and Brain: Electroencephalograph, Electromyograph and their interpretation.Instrumentation for clinical laboratory: Measurement of pH value of Blood, ESR measurements, Haemoglobin measurements, Oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration in Blood, polarographic measurements.Medical Imaging: Ultra sound imaging, Magnetic resonance imaging, Computed Tomography, Molecular Imaging, Brain Imaging (SPECT, PET), Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging, TEM, SEM, Atomic Force Microscopy, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy.Data acquisition and Storage systems. Instrument interface with PC.
