Kronos

Kronos is a web application that serves past years' grade distributions for the various curriculum subjects at our college. It is a helpful tool to check the difficulty level of an Elective subject before you attempt to register for it.

Kronos is created by and for the students of IIT Kharagpur. The project is open sourced on Github. Feel free to contribute to it and open up new issues.

Website

Version 2.0

The app is currently deployed here. This is the main website pointed to in the Github repository; however, it is to be noted that the data it serves is quite old and recent years' results for most subjects is not available.

Version 3.0

The newer, latest version is deployed here. It has a cleaner UI and a larger database of previous year grades, including recent years up till 2024.

Limitations

While most students use this website to make their decisions when selecting subjects, it should be noted that the Github repository for this project has been inactive since 2024, and, as of now, no one is working on this project. As such, updates to the website and its databases are unlikely.

Additionally, it has the following issues:

• It does not include all subjects, including new ones that were introduced just a few years ago.
• For most subjects, grade data is based on self-reporting by students. This might be fallacious, a students with lower grades are unlikely to report them. In addition, there is no real incentive for students to pitch in to this website as, after they have already taken a subject and passed it, that subject doesn't concern them anymore.
• It does not include the effect of professors on the subject. For most departmental subjects (i.e. for core domain-related subjects that have not been created by a particular professor), the professors assigned to teach them change every few years, and this can impact the difficulty of the subject.
