Prerequisite - MT31003Identification of source and product materials/metals for design of process metallurgy flow sheets, importance of product specification, characteristics of key process steps used in process design, design of pyrometallurgical operations, generation of design inputs for high temperature processes, vapour phase separation such as slag fuming, liquid-liquid separation in slag metal systems, metal losses in slags, metallic compounds, application to ilmenite smelting and halide metallurgy, pyrometallurgical reactor design concepts for gas-liquid, gas-gas and liquid-liquid systems, energy sources and energy analysis of process steps. Design of hydrometallurgical process steps, generation of design inputs for leaching, precipitation, ion exchange and solvent extraction operations. Electrometallurgical reactor design. Conceptualisation of process flowsheet, material and energy balance for flowsheet, computation principles; preparing engineering specifications for key process steps.
