Naresh's tasks as a maintainer

I was selected as a maintainer during MetaKGP's elections in April 2017 for a duration of 1 year. Here is my SOP

April - August 2017

Successful tasks:

  • Successfully coordinated with Keethana to conduct a workshop in SN hall of residence, in an attempt to fix the heavily-skewed sex ratio in MetaKGP. The workshop successfully brought in several new members to our group. Although it was still a small number, it was a step in the right direction.
  • Collaborated with Mayank Roy from Scholars' Avenue to publish an article about MetaKGP through their page. The article was shared on several mediums and brought a lot of attention to MetaKGP.

Failed tasks:

  • An intro seminar for MetaKGP was planned for the 18th of August, 2017, but was eventually cancelled 2 days prior to the actual event citing possible meagre turnout. All arrangements were made, but the date being so late turned out to be an issue.
    • The date for the planned intro seminar was the first available day after Gymkhana's slots, but it still turned out to be too late. This could be one of the reasons to consider moving under the Gymkhana.
    • The only takeaway from this could be that I am now a lot more familiar with the process and all the available options for rooms in KGP. Also, thanks to Jayant Abhir, we have a poster prepared for the event.
  • Getting stickers to stick all across the campus. The reason this couldn't be done successfully was the lack of a designer who could help with all the different stickers. Will be pursuing to complete this semester.

Abandoned tasks:

  • Abandoned the task of designating someone to look over all the edits on the Wiki. Doing it myself.

September 2017 - January 2018

Successful tasks:

  • Coordinated with the VP during December to fix all issues and host a working version of the dashboard as 'MyKGP'. Aside from the technical aspects, one of my more resolute requests was to prominently attach the dashboard to MetaKGP, which was fulfilled before release.
  • Helped Arun with meeting the contestants for our October '17 elections and reviewing their proposals.
  • Was fully involved in ironing out and successfully conduct our first Demo Day during early January. The idea was shared with the group by Vikrant. Since the choice of venue was freely available, more effort went into personally requesting people to demo, creating and writing posts for the blog, making and sharing registration links and other PR from the Facebook page.
  • Although this is more or less trivial, I have been handling the member requests for MFTP since the start of my tenure, I'm adding it to this list since the number of requests on the group went up to almost 20 a day for most of October-November.
    • On that note, this can now be immediately automated with the help of Leprechaun. TODO: Talk to Siddharth and help get this done.

Attempted tasks:

  • Working with a designer from campus (Kushal Patankar) to design stickers for MetaKGP, with 2 different purposes.
    • One with just the logo to distribute during our events.
    • The second to serve as wiki awareness, to be stuck around campus. This is still a WIP, so marking as attempted.
  • Personally contacted the governors (or equivalent) of all societies I could find on our Wiki and a few more with a request to update their Wiki pages. So far, 6 societies (DebSoc, Prasthanam, Druheen, WTMS, Communique, Spectra) have since updated their pages. I contacted them again during the last week of January requesting an update, hoping to see more updates. Once most of them respond, will update the Wiki's front page with new articles.
  • Contacted MLH to sponsor our next planned Hackday (second weekend of February), but was turned down citing that they don't sponsor hackathons in Asia. I was motivated to try nonetheless since I noticed one particular hackathon (Will add a link if I find it again) was shared last year that was from India and sponsored by MLH.

Failed tasks

  • I created the Facebook group for MetaKGP after discussing with Vikrant, but haven't yet been able to use it for the purposes I had in mind. The group description reads, "We will be here to listen to everything the community has to say and contribute here, share all our minor & major announcements (including meetups and hackdays), request & incorporate feedback/bug reports, collaborate on Wiki, etc." But I haven't yet been able to attract any audience / nor take the time to get new ideas for wiki pages / edits and post it there.
  • No hackdays YET.
  • No MetaKGP talks yet.
  • I took up the task of uploading new MFQP papers last semester, but only managed to do it for ~65 papers (there's a lot more on the Google group). The process in general that we have in place is extremely cumbersome and is in dire need of automation, but I haven't been able to get to that either. So I consider this a fail on my part.
