This is my SOP, I was elected as a maintainer in April 2017.

Tasks

  • Proposed to have MetaKGP talks - 3 MetaKGP talks were organized : [Talks wiki page]

All the talks were interesting and I personally enjoyed every one of them, but sadly we weren't able to retain new people on slack. Listening to talks you get to know different kinds of stuff out of your daily life but the overhead of doing publicity is big. In future, we should have small talks session within MetaKGP and one more point to note is Ashris's idea that if only a few people (considering the audience size was always less than 20) are attending talks, we can have the sessions at informal places like the park (this would increase the fun aspect of these talks).

  • Proposed to have more engagement on slack - Created #ai then renamed it to #research.

I created #ai cause I knew that due to my interest I would read about ML and DL every day and hence posting regularly about it would be easier for me. I kept the routine till August but slowly this channel died out.

  • Proposed to have more projects - Kaustubh created the KGP map, I and Parth Verma worked on YouTube cache for KGP [Github link] and along with Harish Nandan, I am working on creating an android app for GYFT.

The YouTube cache would have been useful for increasing the LAN speed for fellow KGPians but after hacking for more than a month we got to know that YouTube already caches the videos on CIC servers. Possibly on a hack day, someone can work on it and rather than creating a central cache for all of KGP, hack on a personal cache for each user.

The Android app is still in an initial stage (would show it in a coming demo-day)

  • Helped The Scholar's Avenue write on MetaKGP, [link here].

Own verdict

I would consider the first half of my tenure (until August 2017) a decent one but have failed to do many a task in the second half like no Introductory Seminar(but I don't think we need one), no Talks(but we should have them). I am happy for the demo days, in my opinion the primary goal of MetaKGP should be inculcate a hacker culture among KGPians and demo day gets us on the right track.
