Technology Literary Society Since, its inception decades ago, Technology Literary Society (TLS) has been the singular outlet for the literary skills of the Kgp populace, shining through all these years with the dreams and fantasies of many. Over the years, it has grown, both in size and sophistication, quite in synchronicity with the growth of IIT Kharagpur. TLS, as it is commonly known, is a close-knit group of students bound together by a singular thread, that is literature and with a desire to expose the common Kgpian to the nuances of a literary masterpiece. In sync with the pursuit to achieve this particular goal, TLS is involved through-out the academic year in various publications and events. One of our most popular publications aptly named "Hang On”, a monthly wall magazine, is a colorful rendition of the untapped creativity in the students of IIT Kharagpur. With articles in English and Hindi, embodying the current spirit prevailing in the campus, and not to mention the innovative cartoons sprinkled throughout, it is a delight to the ever-so-groggy eyes of the typical Kgpian. Other than that, we publish "Pulse" which contains sparkling literature in both Hindi and English. Personally delivered to each room in the campus, Pulse is the perfect company on a cozy Sunday morning. Another sister publication of Pulse, that is "ePulse" is published and promoted entirely through social networking sites. Taking advantage of the social networking websites, we manage a very active page on Facebook and Twitter with updates and literary pieces published regularly. We are also responsible for the compilation and publication of "Alankar", the annual magazine of IIT Kharagpur. A comprehensive journey through the various facets of Kgp life in the corresponding academic year, Alankar is delivered personally to each of the graduating seniors, by us on the Convocation day. During the social and cultural fest of IIT Kharagpur, we organized three formal events named “Desi Twist”, "Devil’s Advocate" and “Perfect Sense”, and six informal events, in sync with the mood and theme of the fest. We organized a Google Blogger Event in cooperation with the Google Ambassador for the campus, which was a huge success. We invited literary pieces from the Kgp junta, which were then published on a blog. For TLS, publication of literary material is not all. The written word is very powerful, we have always believed. As an extremely active literary society in the finest institution in our country, we float on ideas and write things that change the way people in our campus think and act. Literature is freedom, in the sense that it frees us from the prejudices of society. Unhinged and free, we soar high among our dreams; dreams motivate actions and constructive actions bear concurrent fruits. It is this desire to be free, to reason with an unbiased and unsoiled mind, that we hope to awaken in every Kgpian. "Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don't we consider it his duty to escape? ... If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we're partisans of liberty, then it's our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!" - J.R.R Tolkien, on Literature
