Railways:- Introduction, classification of routes; railway gauge, coning of wheels and canting of rails, train resistance and hauling power; track components: rails, sleepers, fastenings, ballast and formation; geometric design of rail track; track stresses; turnouts and crossings, signals and control systems, welded rails
